Forza Horizon 4 - LEGO Speed Champions - Benchmark Assets

At the beginning of production for LEGO Speed Champions, I had the incredible job of creating some Render Study assets which would help to inform the workflows and visuals for the rest of the product. Working closely with the Art Director and Environment Art Lead, I created a LEGO element and a Minifig to game specification. This was primarily to test things like, scratches, subsurface scattering, High to Low Poly workflows etc.

I made a benchmark Minifig and LEGO element. Being a massive fan of LEGO, this was probably the most fun I've ever had at work.

This LEGO brick helped us decide on a lot of visual features. The warping, scratches, colours and material response were all tested. I stared at a LEGO brick a lot for this study.

I developed a script based workflow to create the High Poly LEGO elements in Zbrush after they had come out of LEGO digital designer. This helped to speed up production significantly.

Creating this Minifig was so much fun. As someone who actually collects Minifgs, this was a dream. This defined the look for the Minifigs. This was handed to the character team to create the final Minifigs for the rest of the pack.

I created this minifig using the same LDD>Zbrush workflow. This was slightly more tricky than other LEGO elements but I was very careful to add small details which are seen in real LEGO.
