Forza Horizon 6 - Tokyo - Points of Interest

I am incredibly proud to have worked on Forza Horizon 6. I co-managed the Assets and Outsourcing Teams within the Environment Art Team at Playground Games alongside my colleague Nathan Doye.
-
I was responsible for managing the quality and delivery of the work produced by the Internal Artists on my team as well as for one of our Outsourcing Vendors at Glass Egg (a Virtuos Studio).
-
During Concept and Preproduction, I was responsible for building the Assets & Outsourcing Teams at Playground Games and creating and maintaining a high-level vision for the workflows and quality which we wanted to ultimately deliver on. I assisted in planning and scoping as well as onboarding our Outsourcing Teams.
-
During Production and Shutdown, I worked with my direct reports and Glass Egg on behalf of the Environment Art Lead and Art Directors to deliver on their vision for the project.
-
Within this post is a collection of the work that I was responsible for and contributed to with regards to hero "point of interest" locations within Tokyo. As with any project of this scale, it was highly collaborative with lots of support in many areas so thanks to all who worked on FH6!

I helped to plan and scope the assets which we would make for the wider game. Areas like Shibuya Crossing were exciting to put together as a team. I was involved inhe whiteboxing and briefing phase specifically but also managed the team in their efforts.

The "Player Home" in the docks area. Glass Egg did a great job on the initial asset and I guided Jamie Went in how to approach the polish work, giving him feedback and guidance. - Image credit: Jamie Went

I worked with William Kitchen on planning and problem solving the "Rainbow Bridge". We opted to amalgamate two real bridges together to give a fun "under and over" gameplay experience. Glass Egg did some excellent work on the assets themselves.

I enjoyed planning and giving feedback on Shibuya Station with Jamie Went. It was fun to problem solve how to make both sides of it in the most efficient way and to iterate on the visuals.

This side of Tokyo Station was a huge building! A particular chalenge was the amount of interiors which we had exposed in the glass. - Image credit: Jamie Went

The vehicle team did a fantastic job with the rocket itself. Balancing the gameplay requirements with trying to make something visually pleasing was the real trick here! - Image credit: Jamie Went

I think we did an excellent job making it as accurate as we could! A special shoutout to the artists at Glass Egg and Ryan Didcote Hayward who I worked with on planning, briefing and providing feedback on it.

During the planning phases, I enjoyed finding as many blueprints as we could, and measuring them all out to scale it correctly. I helped Ryan Didcote Hayward come up with a texture plan and approach. - Image credit: Ryan Didcote-Hayward

I think everyone involved did a fantastic job. I know the artists at Glass Egg were particularly concious of how important this building is! Many thanks to them!
